A night at the Oscars

I just  cannot  believe  that  it  is  over  2 months  since  I  last  blogged,  it  seems  just  like  yesterday, where  does  the  time  go I  think  my new  years  resolutions should  have  included   a  blog  a  week....  maybe  two  weeks... or....
Things  have  been  hectic,   there  is  so  much  that  I  want  to  share   about  whats  been  going  on,  a friends  21st,  a stork party,  my birthday  party, holiday  club  lessons,  bitten  by  a  poisonous  caterpillar,  I  didn't  even  know  there  was  such  a  thing,  extra  responsibility  at  work, writing  some  short  stories,  and  Kayla  writing  her  final  exams  of  high  school,  extra  maths,  extra  physics, extra,  extra,  lets  start  with  .....  the  21st.
I love  dressing  up,  I  think  it   is  so  sad  that more  people  don't  have fancy dress  parties, it  is  just  so  much  fun  to dress  up,  does  it really matter  that  much  if  you  look a  little  silly  every  now  and  again,  we were  all excited  when  we  got the  invite  shaped  like  a  piramid,  all done  in  gold  and  black......  the  theme  come  as  your  favorite movie  character..........  we  phoned  to  check  that  it  did  not  mean  dress up  like  the  stars  at the  Oscars,  but  no  it  was  fancy  dress.........  my favourite...........the  endless  possibilities.    I can  create  a  character  by throwing  something  together from  what  I  have  at  home  but  Kayla  wanted  to  hire  something......... not  sure  why  looking  stupid  is  better  if  you  have  paid  to  be  that  way........  I  suppose  it is  like  have  a  designer  dress,  oh  this  dress  is  from  Fantasia.. Well due  to time constraints  on the  day of  the  21s  we  started  looking  for  costumes  to  hire,  and  that  I would  be  able  to return  to  on Monday,  Kayla  wanted  to  go  a  Poccohontis she  was  so  disappointed  that  she  couldn't  get  the  boots  as  well,  but  no one  here  includes shoes  in the  outfit.

I  decided  to  go as  Mia  Farrow in the  Great  Gatsby,  I  really  should  have  been  born  in that  era  I  just  love  the  dresses  and  the  head  gear.

Kira  and  Jan   had  a  last  minute  crisis  and  ended  up going  as  Mickey and  Minnie  Mouse.

What  an  evening  it  was  such  a  fun  almost  everyone  dressed  up,  there  was   Sandy  from Grease  and  Sponge  Bob,  and  Moulin  Rouge and Twilight  and  Pirates of the  Caribean, some  people  obviously didn't  join  in  and  were  were  dressed almost  normal....  pity that  people  won't  just  laugh at themselves  once  in  a  while.  For  me the  best   was  the people  who came  as  the Rocky Horror  Show........  oh my goodness,  guys in  high  heels  and  fish net  stockings  are  just  too  funny for  words.......   within  minutes  of getting  there  they changed  to  takkies..   but one  guy  walked  in the  high  heels  the  whole  evening  one  has  to  wonder...
Great  evening,  great  food,  great  company.......... what  more  can  we  ask  for........

Tick Tock

I  am  so  glad  that   I  don't  have  a  clock  in my house  that  chimes  out  the  hour  and  the  half  hour,  because  it  is  bad  enough  laying  in your  bed ..........  waiting  to  fall  asleep  but  to  be  reminded  of  the  fact  that  you  are  still awake  every  half  an  hour  must  be worse  than  when  peeping  with  one  eye  at the  digital  clock  on my bedside  table,  I  check  the  time,  hoping  that  I  fell  asleep and  didn't  realise  it  and  that  it  was  time  to get  up.............  that  the  dark  would  go  away  and the  day  would  break.

My  bestest  friend  Dawn  is  convinced  it  is  because I am  on iron tablets  again,  and  my normally  high  energy  levels  have  gone  into  the  red  and  are  now  looking  to  explode  on the  world.......  or  some  unsuspecting  friend  who  lives  in  another  time  zone,  and  has  time  to  chat......  don't  you  just  love  facebook,  it  is  true  the world  is  so  small that  you  really  do  never  need  to  be  alone.......  ever.........

The  last  two  weeks  have  been  hectic  at  work.......  I  think  I  must  be  quite  "demanding"  at the  moment,  because  as  I  leave  my  office  door  and  go into the main  office  a  look  of  horror  comes  over  everyone's  faces  and  their  eyes  cry  out............. not  me  please  don't   let  it  be  me......  They  just  hate  it   when  I am  in  mission  mode.............

So.......  after  these  hectic  days,  I am  finished,  I  watch a  little TV   100 channels  and  nothing  to watch,  I go to  bed  and  read  my bible,  and  read  my inspirational  book,  and  read  my story  book,  and  count  100  sheep jumping  over  a  fence,  and  then  jumping  back  again,  I think  happy  thoughts  of  fields  full  of  sunflowers  blowing  in a  summer  breeze,  I  pray  for  all the  people  in my  life,  I  send  love  to  those  who have  hurt me..........  and  then  some  more  for  good  measures,  and  guess  what  I am  not  even  yawning...........  nothing.........

Next  night,  I  play  on the  computer  for  a  while,  watch  a  little  more   TV  I go to  bed  and  read  my bible,  part  of  the  Old  Testament  and  part  of the  New  Testament,   and  read  my inspirational  book about  how  I  can  be  the  best  person  I  can  be,  and  read  my story  book the  few pages that  I  left  the previous  night,  and  count  100  sheep,   jumping  over  a  fence,  and  then  jumping  back  again, 100  cows  jumping  over  the  moon  and  back  again,  I  think  off  all the  cutlery  in my draw  running  off  with  one  another,  I think  happy  thoughts  of  fields  full  of  sunflowers,  I  count the  rows   blowing  in a  summer  breeze,  I  pray  for  all the  people  in my  life,  and  all  those  people  who  were  in my  life,  and  all those  people  who  are  going  to come  into my life, I  send  love  to  those  who have  hurt me..........  and  then  some  more  for  good  measures,  and  yes  even  more  just  in case  the  rest  didn't  get  through,  and  guess  what  I am  not  even  yawning...........  nothing.........

Next  night  I...................... ideas  anyone.......

Ola - Mexican for a day..

Every year for the past 25 years   the company I work  for in September  has the annual lady buyers lunch,  we  invite  all the  lady buyers from the companies we supply to,  and all the  ladies of our company are  invited  so that we  can mingle,  all the  guy account managers  are  invited  because  they are our waiters  for the  day..........  or  our  slaves  for the  day,  for  this  day  they fetch,  they carry, they pour our  drinks,   take  away our  dishes..........  and  yes  we  do abuse  them.
The  fun  part  is  that  every  year they  chose  a  theme,  which  ties  in  with the  show  that  is  being  presented  and  everyone  dresses  up  according  to the theme, it  is  great fun,  it  makes  us  very creative  and  my team  has  won  the  team  price so many times  I  really  cannot remember  ..... bragging.
We  have  been  everything,  from    Eyptian  goddess's,  to   witches, which  I  might  add  some people "insinuated"  that I was  in character  and  not  playing  a  roll,  it  is  sometimes  tough  to be the  one responsible  for collecting  the money,  to  those  I  can  help  I am  the  Eyptian  goddess and  to those  who  I  just  cannot  help,  I am  the  witch............
One  year  we  had  a  Spanish  theme,  and  we  all went  as  bull fighters.....

One  year  we had  a  60's  theme  and  we  all went  as  hippies...........

This  year  the  theme  was  around  the  world so  we  decided  to  go  as  Mexicans,

it  was  a  bit  scary that  some  of  us  looked  really  good  in  a  moustach ...............  the  food  was  good  the  show  was  great,  and  the  company  was  funny  what  a  great  way  to  spend  the  afternoon and  also  be  paid  for  it ..............

Okay I am Spoiled

BRMMMMM .........  BRMMMMM ..........BRMMMM
Every now  and  again  you  have  one  of  those  AHA  moments..........  well this  week  I had  one of those  moments  I  realised  that  I am  blessed.........
When  I  went  to  Durban  in July  on the  way  there  I  had  a  little "disagreement"  with  a  pole,  there  I  was  minding  my own  business  and it  jumped  out from  behind and  attacked  me,  well  that's  my  story  and I  am sticking  to  it.................. so  I  had  a  lovely  little  dent  and  some  scratches on  the  drivers  side  of the  car  and  there  is  nothing  I  hate  more  that  a  dented  car.
Well  this  week  was  the  week,  when  off my  baby  went  for  a  make  over  and  some  panel  beating  and  I was  given  a  loan  car  while  the  deed  was  being  done............  I  cannot  believe  that they  had  the  cheek  to  actually call it  a  car..........
They  gave  me  a  car  with  no power  steering,  with  no air conditioning,  with  no  central  locking.  On  getting  back  to the office  it  took  me  15  minutes  to  get back  into my parking bay ,  because  I  work  for  a  chemical  company,  we  have  to  back  into  our  parking  bays  so  in the  case  of  a fire,  or  a  chemical  spill  we can  all leave  the  premises  quickly....  15  minutes  later  this  tiny  little  car  would  not  go into the  parking, it was  almost  as  though  it  had  a  mind  of its  own I  think  I must  have  done  a  100  point  turn to get  into the  parking.
On  the  way home   I  was  battling  with  the  gears  and  my daughter  had  her  head  out  of the  window  screaming to  her  friends  in the  car  next  to  us  "HELP ME,  HELP ME".......................
The  next  morning  I  decided  that  this  car  was  not  going  to  beat  me so  in I  got............. and  I  became   Michael  Schummaker  ............  I  was  throwing  that  car  around  the  corners,  I was  driving  with  attitude,  and  there  I  was  racing  along  the  high way,  I  was going  so  fast  the  car  was  shaking  from the  speed,  the  wind  was  blowing  in  from  all  the  internal  ventilation holes,  I  mean  who  needs  an  air conditioner  when  you  can  have  natural  wind  blowing  in the  car,  I  was  going  so  fast  my  hair  blowing  in the  wind,  WOW  I  thought,  this  little  thing  really  flies,  and  glancing  down  at the  speedometer  I  was  that  I  was  doing  a  mind  blowing  ............. 80km  an hour................. in a  120 km zone,   no  speeding  fines  for  me  this  week.........  which  is  a  good  thing  after  the  two  I  got  last  week.....................
On  Thursday  I  had  to  go  back  to the  lawyer  in Johannesburg..........  more  legal  stuff..........  no  problem   I  mean  I have  a  Garmin.......  except  this  little thing  that  they  call  a  car,   has  no place to  put  the  charger,  and  there  i  was  driving  along  with  no idea  where  I  was  going...................... and  I  had  an  appointment  at 8.30am  luckily  someone  gave  me  great  instructions  and  I  arrived  with 5 minutes  to  spare.
One  great  thing  about  this  car  is  that  I  will either  die  of  dehydration  from  the  heat  or  lose  a  really lot  of  weight........  maybe  that  could  be  a  selling  feature  in their  next  advert...........
Every  night  from  now  on  I  will  add  to my prayer  list  of  thanks,   thank  you  Lord  for  my car.........  I am  truly  blessed..................

The Last Hurdle

I cannot  believe  that  in  a  few  months  my "baby"  will be  out  of  school,   the next  few  months  are hectic for  her,  at the moment  she  is  busy  with  prelim  exams,  which will last  until the end  of September and then in the middle of October she starts  her  finals,  and then all done. For  me  I am  really enjoying  pottering  around  the  garden,  and the house  rearranging and  fixing  and  painting,  all friends  know  that we  are  a  red  zone  for the  next  few  months..............  peace  and quiet...........  I  could  really get  used  to  this.
Before the start  of the prelims  the school had their matric farewell,  as usual  her  school  cannot to  things  "normally"  like  other school, where  the  the children  take  partners  with,   at Kayla's  school they have a sit  down  banquet supper  for the  parents. They  feel  the parents  paid  for  12  years  of education  so  why should  some  boy reap the  rewards........  got  to love their  thinking.
They  had  it  on a Thursday evening  in a beautiful place  called  Summerplace,  the same place  I went to  a wedding  at the  beginning of the  year.  The  theme  for the  evening was "Fly like an  Eagle"  so everything had a eagle  theme  very  well done  I  might  add,  on the  tables  were  nests  filled  with  chocolate eggs and  fluffy little  yellow  chicks,  they had a constant stream of pictures  from a  projector on the walls.
The  girls  and guys  all  looked  beautiful  with their  long dresses............  and some not so long .......  I wish  that  shops  would have a siren  when you leave the shop that  scream out .......... warning,  warning,  you are in danger  of making a fool of yourself.........  you cannot wear that..........  you cannot  wear that.........  tree stumps  do not look good  in mini's............. worse  still how  can  a mother  allow  her  child  to wear such a dress.
My designer  friend  Cherry  made  Kayla's  dress  and although  we  had  some "moments"  with  the  zip  she  looked beautiful.

My  daughter  goes  to a  Seventh Day Aventist  Christian  School,  and  they believe  in being  vegetarian,  obviously the people  at  our  table  had  not  read the  invitation  they  were  ready  to  phone Macdonald's  for  takeaways  when  they  heard  what was  on the menu, I really  enjoyed  it,  although  fail to see the  need  to  have  "fake" steak  and  "fake" chicken as  part  of the buffet. The  people  on our  table  were  definitely  meat  eaters, and  left  most  of there  food,  when  it  was  time  for  dessert   they   believed  me  when  I told them  the  desserts  were  also  "vegetarian"  .................  do  you even  get  vegetarian  desserts,  some people  will believe  anything.
We were  on the  table with  some  interesting people, the gentleman  next  to me  with  a  name  to long and to  difficult  to remember  and  I  had  the  same  sense  of  humour  and on a few occasions  during the night  he  had  to  leave  because  we  were  laughing  so  much..........  when they evening  was  over   they  wanted  our  details  so that  we  could  get  together  again......  it was  fun......  much  more  fun  than  having  to get  up at 4.30am   the  next  morning  to  go  to  work.........
It  would  have  been  great  if  Kayla  could have  had  both of her  parents,  there................

The Wild Wild West

Well,  I  cannot  believe  how  long  it  has  been  since  I  have  had  time  to  blog,  but  after  this  weekend I  will  at  last  have  some  time,  holiday  club is  done and  dusted   ladies  retreat  is  this  weekend,   Kayla's matric  farewell is over,  and  now  the  final  3  months  and  Kayla  is  finished  with  school  and  on  to  University.  Kayla  got  her  drivers  license  so  is  now  mobile,  now  she  needs  a  car,   So with exams just around the  corner  we  have  no  plans  the  only  plan  is for  Kayla  to study,  study,  study  and  i  will  be  at  home  hopefully  blogging  and  reading  all  my  friends  blogs,  boy  how  I  have  missed  all the  fun  things  my  blogging  friends  get  up  to,  Kathy,  Donna,  Maggie,  Pennie,  and  so  many  others.

In    last  month  I  did  have  a  holiday  a  week  away  at the  coast,  but  I  decided  to  leave  my computer  at  home  and  just  read,  some  quiet  time  with  my God,  some  inspirational  reading,  some  deep  contemplation  and  self  analysis  and  I  was  good  to  go................  The  girls  decided  they  wanted  to  do  everything  different  so  we  could  not  go  to any  place  we  had  been  before,  so we  found  a  whole  load  of  new  places  and  they  wanted  to  do  something  extreme,  either  jumping  off  the  highest  bridge  in  South  Africa  or  doing  a 4 hour    bush,  beach  and night  horse  ride,  we  voted ..........and  the  horse  ride  won.  At  the time  I  thought  it  was a  good  idea,  but  in hindsight  at  least the  bridge  jumping  would  have  been  over  in 5 minutes ...........

So  off we  went,  when  I  saw  the  horses  I  didn't want  the  third  horse  from the  right,  its  foot  was  raised  and  it  looked  ready  to  go............................  haha  its  name  was  Jet,  and  here  I  am  on  Jet
we  took  a  while  to  get  to  know  one  another,  but  he  really  was  quite  a  sweetie,  you  just  had  to  keep  him  on a  very........  short  rein..........

(Please  note  the  apprehension  on my face)
Some  of  the  people  had  never  been  on horses  before,  luckily  we  have  horses  so  we  were  all quite  confident,  we had  an  hour   walkthrough  the  bush, to  get  to  the  beach, I  was  nearly  decapitated  a  few  times  by  low  hanging  branches  and  I  forgot  when  I  bent  forward,  to  miss  a  branch,  to  put  my legs  forward  instead  they  automatically  go  backwards,  and  after  nearly  do  a somersault  over  the  horse  head........  I  quickly  learnt  that  lesson.

In order  to  get  to  the  beach  we  had  to  cross  a  main  road,  no  problem  except  what  is  it  about  people  who  think  they  need  to  hoot  when  they  see  a  horse  do  they  not  know  that  horses  SPOOK  and  get  frights,  more  than  a  few  scary  moments  here............ I  wondered  what  I  would  look  like  screaming  on a  runaway  horse............  not a pretty  sight I  am  sure.

The  beach  was  fantastic,  to  ride  a horse  along  the  beach,  with  the  waves  at  your  feet,  is  to  say the  least  absolutely  unbelievable  until  you  have  tried  it  you  cannot  describe  it........  awesome,  man  and beast  what   more  could  you  ask  for,  the  sunset  was one of the  most  amazing  I  have  seen  and  so  much  more  special  because of  the horse.

We  then  took  a  slow  ride  home,  luckily  it  was  full moon,  I  don't  think  I  would  have liked doing  that  ride  in the  dark,  when  we  went  through  the  bush,  there  was  a  river  on the  one  side,  one  wrong  move  and  you  would  have  been  swimming  ............ and  of  course  the horses  were  very  eager  to  get  home,  so  we  kept  our  distance  from  one  another..........  far  away  from  one  another...........

4 hours  on  a  horse,  well  I  can  tell  you  I  was  sore  in places  which humans  just  shouldn't  have  places,  John  Wayne,  and  Clint  Eastwood  would  have  taken  off  their  hats  to me.......  the  Lone  Ranger  would  have  given  me  Tonto,  he  would  have  been  so  proud........    .  this  is  life  at  its  best..............................

White Elephant Tea

It is amazing how quickly the time flies  and three  months  have  passed  since  our Victorian  Tea.  The  theme  for  this  tea  was  "White Elephant"  at the  back  of  the  invitation  was  the  instructions for those  ladies  "brave"  enough  to join  us.........

Instructions
Please  bring something from your home
that you have bought and never used, or seldom
used, DO NOT buy something new.

Please wrap your "White Elephant Gift"
attractively in gift wrap,  not a gift bag
the fun is not  knowing what the  "gift" is...

The  table  was  "decorated"  with the  most  amazing looking  gifts.......  that  looked  almost  too nice to be  true.....  and they  were.......

All the  ladies  were  given  a number  and they could choose  a  gift,  did  we  laugh  people  had   really used  more  than  a  little  imagination  when  deciding  on what  to  bring, I have  not see  such  an  array  of  useless  gifts,  there  was  a car  coffee  maker, (apparently  by the  time  you get to  Durban  the  coffee  would be  hot  enough  to  drink), there  was  the  ugliest jam  server  I  have  ever  seen, and  I  mean  ever,  there  were  icing  pipers,  foot  massagers, there  were plastic  beads  to make  your  own  jewellery, there  were  some  quite  cool things  as  well..............  strongly  fought  for  I  might  add, the  twist  however  was  that you  were  allowed  to steal   the  gift from the  person before  you.................  at  one  point  I  thought  I  would  have  to call in  some  additional  help  and  911  was  already  on my  speed dial............ thankfully  we  were  all  good  Christian  ladies.........well almost  all of  us.

The  talk  for the  day  was  getting  rid  of  your  White  Elephants,  materially,  emotionally and perceptionally,    a friend  shared  with  us  her  life,  and how she had  to get  rid of her White  Elephants,  one  husband killed in a  car  accident,  one  husband  committed  suicide,  one husband had a stroke and is  completely paralised and one husband  divorced....................   and  how  she  has  had  to overcome anger, grief  and disappointments  and  I  know  that  a number  of  people were more  than a little  affected by  her  unique  life  story
We  shared  some  laughs,  and  drank  some  afternoon  tea,  we  played  some  games it  is  absolutely amazing  what  women  have  in there  hand  bags.  I was the  MC for the afternoon,  director  of  games and  sole  judge  and  jury.................  I was  not responsible  for the  photo's  that  was  Kayla's job,  all of which  she  took before  everyone had  arrived,  5 in total...........  thanks  Kayla................. thanks  Penny for the  idea,  it  was  great  fun.
