I woke up this morning in a strange bed.............
the most beautiful bed in a place called Tintagel in the heart of Cape Town, it is nestled at the foot of table mountain, and this morning as i open the door and peer upwards the mountain is covered with its famous table cloth. The whole mountain is shrouded in a mist, like something out of a ghost story. The guest house where we are staying was built in 1890 one of the reasons that I chose it, it is like going back in time, as I write this I am sitting in a tiny court yard, which is protected by a covering of wisteria, beautiful purple flowers, in the court yard next to me i can hear the flow of water, from the old water feature which in now worn away by age, and green from the constant flow of water, but just as beautiful.
From outside the guest house looks very small, but as you enter the front doors you are greeted by the beauty and are taken back to a time when elegance, and refinement was the order of the day.
It is only 6 in the morning, and already the streets outside are bustling with cars, I am not sure whether they are going somewhere or coming from somewhere, but I feel that I should be hearing the sounds of horse hooves and carts, the road noise completely out of character to the surroundings in which I find myself.
We flew into Cape Town yesterday, after a somewhat bumpy and being annoying flight, we had the "pleasure" of 3 particularly irratating guys the whole trip, I am doomed to have flights that are challenged by either crying babies, drunk men, or whining children.
What a joy to be in Cape Town again, from the minute you arrive, you can feel the "slowness" of the place, everything is clean, no graffiti, no bill boards, no derelict buildings.......... thank you world cup............. after an "interesting" drive, using the Garmin here proved to be somewhat of a challenge as a lot of the roads are one ways and are so narrow, that you can hardly pass the cars parked on the side of the road, we ettled in, and off we went to the V & A Waterfront, as we sat and had a few drinks, sitting alongside the dock, with multi million rand liners parked next to you, you have an inkling of what it must be like to be a Jet Setter, and I think I really like it..............
Then off to find somewhere for supper, rule number one when we go away we don't go or do anything that we can do at home, so off we went in search of somewhere to eat. It is now 8 o'clock at night and the light has just faded, the wind has come up and being by the water, without jerseys has taken on a shivering dimension, so in doors it was. Inside the Waterfront, the Christmas decorations are up, and from the ceilings there is a waterfall of blue fairy lights, absolutely beautiful, for the first time a stirring that Christmas is just around the corner, hits me.
The Cape Fish Market, is where we decided on for supper, how can you be at the sea and not have fish....................... I had sushi for starters, just LOVE sushi, and then I had a mussel pot, with vegetables done in a garlic sauce................ world stay away from me today, as I am armed and dangerous and I am not afraid to BREATH on you.....................
WOW. I remember the time when cape town had its cricket matches for the 2003 cricket world cup. They used to show and talk about the city. the place is really beautiful... have a great time Karen... xo
