Trip to Durban

Yesterday  morning I was up at the crack of dawn, 3.30am to be exact, I had to get to the airport for a flight down to Durban to see a customer, it was weird leaving the house at 4.45 when everyone else was still fast asleep, here  and  there  there  was  an  odd light, showing  some sign  of  life,  but  apart  from  that  I  could  almost  have  been  the  only  person  left  on  earth..................  there was no one else  on the roads......... and I flew through to OR Thambo airport without  an  aeroplane,  for  once   no  traffic,   no  roadworks,  no  taxis........no accidents.......
Then came my  first  problem  problem  for  the  day, I realised I had left my glasses at home............... and I am as blind as a bat without them,  I phoned what I thought was the parking valets number ............... mistake  number  two  for  the  day..... big mistake I woke up "the guy" from hell............  I had  dialed  the  wrong  number , I very politely apologised for the mistake and apologised  for  waking  him,  thinking  that  was  the  end  of  that ............. checking my phone later I saw an sms from him that said " He is getting married today and how  dare  I wake  him up" ........ I returned  his  sms again saying sorry for the mistake,  I  even congratulated  him  on  his  upcoming  wedding................ his next sms was "Yes big mistake for having your number showing"....................... I don't want to imagine what he means by that remark, what is wrong with people, I made an honest mistake, apologised twice, and for  him  it  is still is not enough,  I  feel  sorry  for  his  bride  to  be ........... what happened to forgiveness................
The flight  was delayed ....... aren't they always...... is  there  some  rule  book  that  says that  planes  can't  leave  on  time,  is  there  some secret  dossier  that  says   that  you  should  keep  passengers  hanging around  at  the  airport  for  as  long  as  possible...............  eventually  we  boarded  and we  were  on  our  way.
I  was  fortunate enough  to  get  a  window  seat,  and  looking  down  at  God's  creation  from  11 kilometers  up is truly a  humbling  experience,  the  clouds  looked  like white  cotton  wool,  the  ground  from  that  distance  looked  green  and  lush,  with  only  the odd  river  or  road,  running   higgaldy,  piggaldy  through its awesome   beauty,  then  over  the   Drakensburg  mountains  standing  proud  and  tall  reaching  upwards  towards  the  heavens..........

As  we  arrived  in  Durban the  plane  banked  to  come  in  over the  sea,  and  what  an  amazing  sight,   the  sun  was  reflecting  off the  sea,  the  sea  was  so  calm  it  was  like  a mirror.......    dotted all along  the  horizon  were  ships  which  looked  like  childrens  toys  bobbing  around  in  a  bath  tub...........  Right  underneath  the  plane  was  a  fishing  boat   and  I could  see the  circle  of  their  nets  in  the  water  following  behind  the  boats,  as  they  trawelled   for  fish,  it  was amazing...........................I  had  never  seen  it  from   the  air  before,  as  you  come  into  land  you  are  so  close  to  the  sea,  you  can  see  the  waves  breaking  on  the  beach,  and  all of  a  sudden  I  realised  that it  was  all  worth  while and  I  had  been  blessed  by  getting  up  so  early..............................................

  1. Karen, I have the feeling that you'll be getting a wake up call from that jerk..I hate flying and only love airports when I'm picking someone up or we've just landed! Your description made me feel like I was landing with you and I enjoyed it much better here in front of the computer! Glad you're feeling better!
