“You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
-- Martin Luther King, Jr --
My "bestest" friend sent this quote to me the other day, and it really had an impact on me, it really got me thinking.............. it made me think of how much of our lives we spend looking for life, how much of our lives is spend chasing the "American Dream" ............... it made me realise how, we are so busy getting "more" of everything that we never stop, in fact I don't think that we know when to stop, I doubt that we even know how to stop................ how to take that first step to make our lives meaningful so that we can look back on them and truly say I had a great life.
Why is it that we are never happy with what we have, that we never fulfill that need for more, that no matter how much we have it is never enough, because someone, somewhere has more than us, so we push on trying to be bigger, better, thinner, funnier, we try to have more, have you ever stopped to wonder how much “more” is actually enough. Is there some flashing red light that comes on in our brain when we have reached “more” does the world come to a stand still, does the sun forget to shine and the moon forget to rise, all because you now have achieved the pinnacle of “more”.........................
Have you ever stopped to wonder how much your “more” is affecting your family, your job, your health, your relationships, how much your "more" is affecting you, what about how much your ‘more” is affecting the person your were predestined to become…………… do you miss becoming that person, because you never have the chance to find out who you actually are, you never took that first step up the staircase to find out who you really are inside .......................
We are always searching, for that greener grass on the other side of the fence, searching for the ideal partner, searching for the best friends, searching for the best holiday resorts, searching for the best jobs, with the biggest salaries, the best coffee shops, the best clothes, the best cars, the best pets……………….. it feels as though we spend our whole life searching....................but if we are honest with ourselves we never find what we are searching for, because we are not looking in the right places, we are not looking inside ourselves ............. what we are really searching for cannot be bought at a shop, cannot be traded, cannot be earned........ to find out who we are, where we fit in, what we believe, where are lives should be going…….
we have to look inside, we have to look at who God wants us to be, we have to find out what, gifts and talents God has given us, and in doing that, when you are using you gifts, when using your talents to the glory of our Father .....................you will find the "more' that you are searching for ........... because there is no " more" in life than doing what God has asked you to do............
