Music Evening

Tonight  we  had  music  evening  at  our  church  hall,  and  it  was  really amazing,  a  lot  of  time  and  effort  had  gone  into  arranging  and  organising  the  event,  the  only  thing  that  did  not  work  for  me  were  the  Christmas  lights,  they  really  did  not  add anything  to  the  glamour  of  the  evening...................
There  were  quite  a  few  acts,  one  of  which  was the   local  doctor  and  his  wife  playing  violin  and  piano  together........  wow.......  they  played  songs  like  Memories.......  Phantom  of  the  Opera........... You  raised  me  Up............. all songs  with  words  you  can  understand............  words  that  are  sang..........  not  belted  forth.........  all  my  favorites  not  a  note  off key really  first  class  playing.........

Then  we  are  blessed  to  have  two  South  African  dancing  champions  in  our  congregation  so  they  did  some  dancing  for  us.........  again  a  really  excellent  performance............
Then  it  was  the  star of  the  show, "Giovanni"   a  young  singer  currently  on  South Africa's  own  "Super  Stars"  and  with  only  a  few  episodes  to  go  doing  very  well.........  (  I  personally  do  not  watch  so  had  actually  never  heard  of  him  until  this  evening).

He  is  Afrikaans  speaking    so  at  the  beginning  of the  evening  he  asked  if  there  were  any  English  people  in  the  audience........  which  I  am.......  so  only  I  put  up  my  hand....................  well.............  he  spent  the  whole  evening  translating.............  everything  he  said  which  was  really  very  sweet  of  him..........  except  I  am  fully  bilingual  so  understood every word  of  every  song  he  sang.........  at the  end  of  the  evening  I  went  up  to  get  his  autograph.....  it's  a  flashback  to  my  youth,  I  used  to collect  autographs,  and  have  all  the  Beatles,  Leo  Sayer,  David  Sole,  Donny  Osmond.  Richard  Claydermann ............  and  when  I  told  him  I  speak  Afrikaans,  he  laughed  and  said  at  least  he  had  some  practice  speaking  English...............  I  really  felt  bad.....  but  it  really  wasn't  done  on purpose............. it  was  quite  scary  because  every time  he  spoke  English  he  only  looked  at  me  and  spoke  directly  only  to  me..........  now  if  he  was  say.........  someone  from  my  century  that  would  have  been  really  cool.........  but  I  think  he  is  about   21............. so  was  quite  weird..........
I  must  say  his  voice  is  amazing.........  a  great  time  was  had  by  all...........  and  to  show  how  much  I  enjoyed  it.....    he  asked  everyone  to  vote  for  him  to  help  him  win so  I  voted  for  him.......  although  what  that  means  will have  to  be  explained  by  my  daughter...............

  2. Sounds like an amazingly fun evening...but I'm really impressed that you have all the Beatles autographs! That's cool! Your "Super Star" show sounds like our "American Idol" show..which I don't watch but somehow always find out who wins it!
