WOW WOW WOW.............

WOW WOW WOW

As  I  sit  here  I  find  it  so  hard  to  write,  seems  like  a  life time  ago  that  I  had  the  time,  patience  or  inclination,   its  like  my life  is  flashing  by  and  I  only  get  occasional  glimpses  of  how things  used  to  be,  when  my  time  and my  life  was  my  own.
The  last  year  has  been  "challenging"  would  be  a  good  way  of  putting  it,  with  work,  church  and home  commitments.  The  one  thing  that  kept  me together  was  my adorable  grandchildren,

Hayden now  3

Hayden  when  he  entered  his  first  bike  race......  so  proud.

I  took  Hayden  to  his  first  movie  at the  theatre  during the  December  holidays,  I  hate  animated  movies  but  more  than  that  I  hate  half/ half  movies,  that  is  animated  with people  I  mean  come  on  has  anyone  ever  spoken  to  their  dog,  chipmunk,  mouse  and  treated  them  like  people..........    anyway  Hayden  chose,   Alwin and the  Chipmunks..........  arggggg....    but  being  to good,  kind   grandmother  that  I  am,  I  took him.   He  was  very  good..........  well  almost  very  good,  he  couldn't  understand  why  you  had  to be  quiet,  and  wanted  to know  who  was  laughing......  and  why,  he  then  at the  top  of  his  voice  proceeded  to  tell everyone........  he  needed  a  yep...........  number  2.........  so  glad  the  movie  house  was dark.....lol.

and  Noah  now  aged  16  months

Noah,  is  so  inquisitive  into every  thing,  scared  of  nothing.  The  other  day  he  let  the  chicken  out  of  its  cage,   I  wish  you  could  have  heard  him  laugh  at  his  granny  running around  the  garden  in her  pj's,  with  her  morning  Mohican hair style,  looking  like  the  wild  woman  of  Bornea..... with  a  wet  towel  to  throw  over the  chicken  when  I  got  close  enough  I  was  hanging  the  washing  at the  time,    trying  to  catch  the  chicken..........  trying  to  explain  to  a  16  month  old,  that  he  needed  to  help  me  head  off  the  chicken  at  the    pass.....  note  to  self..........  it  is  impossible  to  catch  a  chicken.....

First Memories

A  friend  and  I  at  work  have  been  playing  the  game  Trivia Crack, well he has  been playing  I  don't  have  an  Ipod  Ipad,  or  anything  else  with  an  I in  it,  that  is  Android  driven........ so  I  have   been  assisting, using  the term  very  mildly...... and  it  is  amazing  how much  you  unconsiously  remember, how much  information  is  buried  in your  brain  that  you  are  able  to  access in an  instant.......   basically  the  game  is  a  general  knowledge  game  where  you pit your  general knowledge  against  random  other  people,  and  it  is  really  fun,   a  good break  and  super  informative.

It  reminded me  of  some  years  ago  when  I   was  chatting  and  my  mom,  she  asked  me  what  my  first  memory  was  and  I  knew  the  answer  immediately, I   can  remember  watching  my  big  sister  standing  on a  mound  of  grass  and  waving  to the trains  as they  passed  by.   I must  say   this  is  something  I  still  do   I  always  wave  at  the  train  drivers  and  still  love  it  when  they  blow  the  whistle,  something  that  I  already  have  my  grandson  doing,  that  I  often have  to  try  and  catch  up with the  front  of the  trains  so the  driver can  see  us just  so  he  can  blow  the  whistle ............ the  things  we  will  do  for  our  grandchildren............   I also  wave  at  all helicopters,  and  light  aircraft  just  in case they  can  see  me....  strange  I  know.

This is  really  a  simple  memory,  nothing  exciting  or  life  changing  or mind  blowing, ...........  the  thing  was that  the  only  house  we  ever  lived  in  with  a  railway  line  at the  bottom  of  the  garden  was  a   house  we  lived  in,  in   Booth  Avenue  I  think  my  mom  told  me  was  in xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx    and  we  left  that  house  when  I  was  18 months  old.

If somewhere  in your  brain  is  all  your memories  why  can  I  not  remember  birthdays, cell  numbers,  my  shopping  list,  bible  verses,  to  lock  my car  before  I  go  to bed,  to  switch on the  alarm  before  I  am  in bed,  to  reset  the  alarm  clock  on Mondays, to  buy  milk  and  bread,to  switch on the  washing  machine when  it  is  loaded  and  not  before,  that  popcorn  makes  me  cough,  and  to  have  a  tissue  ready when  I  watch  the  Body  Guard  because it  always makes  me  cry........  the  memory is  a  really  strange  thing........

Had  a  whole  load  of  pictures  which  I  cannot  download,,,,,,,,,  can  anyone  help??

THE BIG RED COUCH

New Years  Eve  we  went  to my  sister  for  the  day,  she  has  just  moved off her  game  farm  and  into a house  in town,  and  has  been  treating  herself to  some  new  furtniture, and  she  has   bought herself,  in one  of  the  cozy  corners  of  the  house  a   BIG RED COUCH,  with  a  very  patriotic feel,  although  we  have  been  in South  Africa  for  over  40  years,  there  is  still  that  part  of  us  that  will  always  belong  to the  country where  we  were  born.  So the  good  old  Union  Jack  is  visible  everywhere.

We  decided  to  have  a photo shoot  on the  BIG RED COUCH,  well the  couch  is  made  of
leather,  real  leather  and  is  very "sippery"  so  I  plop  myself down   on the  couch  next  to  my  sister,    and  as  I  sat  next  to my  sister  I  kept  on sliding off  the  couch,  the  more  I  tried  to  sit  on my  own  side  of  the  couch  the  more  I  kept  sliding   towards  her  so  that  I  felt  like  I  was going  to  either  sit  on her  knee  or disappear  under  her.

Needless  to  say  the  photo  shoot  that  we  wanted,  just  did  not  happen  as  we  were  laughing to  much.

Memories are made of this.

Holidays..............

Well  I  am  now  in the  second  week  of  my  holidays  and  not  sure when  the  relaxing  part  of the  holidays  is  supposed  to  begin.....
Last week  was  Holiday  Club  at  the  Church  the  theme  for  this December,  was  "Walking in Jesus's  footsteps"

On Wednesday  I  had  my  eldest  grandson  for  a  few  days,  nursery  school  has  closed  and  Mom  is  still  working  so  every morning  we  popped  in to Holiday  Club  to sort  out the  days  activities,  and  then  had  some  fun.

We went  for  a  picnic,  Noah's  first  not  sure  that  he  enjoyed  it....

We  went  to  see  Father  Christmas  and  my eldest  grandson  refused  and  I  quote  "to  sit  on that  Uncles  knee"  so  I  had  to  do ...

It  was  so  hot  34 degreees we  cooled  off  in  a  bath  of  water

And  then  it  was  Christmas

And  now  maybe    can  get  some  rest

UPSIDE, DOWNSIDE, TOPSY TURVEY........ CRAZY

I  really  want  to  be  one  of  those  people  who  have  ordinary lives,  who have schedules  that  work,  who have animals  that listen, who  have clean cars who  can  predict what  will  happen  today, tomorrow  and  forever.

Me  and  my  life  well....... what  can  I  say, I  live  in a  mad house or   perhaps  I  am  the  reason  this  is  a  mad house.

Take  tonight, just  a  normal  evening,  I  stopped  at the  shops  to  pick  up  a  few  things and  on the  way  back  to my car, I  became  invisible  because  a car  reversed  out  as  I  was  passing  and  almost  wiped  me  out.

I  get  home  to  a  mound  of dustbin  bags   outside  my gate our  garbage  disposal persons (  politically correct)  are  on a  go slow,  which  is  a surprise  to  me  because  I  have  never  actually  seen  them  moving  with  any  sense  of  purpose  or  a   sense  of  urgency  My  kind  neighbour  offered  to  take  my  bags to  the dump........  but  tonight  he  was  busy  so  I  have  a  mound  of  smelly  garbage  at  my gate.

As I  get  into  our  back  yard  it  has  rained  again,  and  a  swimming  pool  has  appeared  in my garden,  and  our  white  French  poodle  who  loves  water  specially  if  is  is  brown  with  mud  has  been  having  her  own  swimming  party   while  the  other  two  dogs are standing  by  watching,  disgusted  at  how  dirty  she  is  and  smiling  because they  know  she  will not  be  allowed into  the  house  so they are waiting  to  see  what  trouble  she  is  in.

Being  lazy  to  make  two  trips  to the  car,  I  become  a  one  woman  packhorse  and  carry my laptop,  my handbag,  my hold  everything  I  might  need  in a  day bag,  my  two  grocery bags,  by  loaf  of  bread  and  a  gift of  wine  and  chocolates  that I  received  today,  and when  i  get  to  the  door  my  house  keys are still  in the  car.........  this  trip  with  high  heel  shoes  is  really  not  for  sissies.........

I am now  safely  inside, with  the  dogs  crying  at the  gate  to  come  in,  and  I  see  no  vegetables have  been  prepared  which  means my  planned  supper  now  has  to  change  because  I  don't  have  time  to   peel  vegetables  and  cook  it  and  eat  it  before  we  are  plunged into  darkness  because  of  the  load  shedding.........

Kayla  lets  two  dogs  in because  they  are  still  crying  at the  gate  and  goes  outside  to  play  with  Ginga.....  and  the  two  dogs,  who  had  been  crying  at the  back  door  to  come  in  since  I  got  home,  are  now  crying  to  go out again.........

During  supper, Ginga  the  Poodle  is  trying  her  best  to  pull  the  cat  off  its  bed  because  she  wants  the  bed,  Dash  the  Jack  Russel  is  fighting  both  the  cat  and  the  Poodle  and  the  minute  the  three  of them  are  chasing  one  another  around  the  house,  in  a  fenzied cat/dog  fight, Levy  the  labrador  takes  over the  bed  and  settles  down  for  the  evening.........

And  this  is  just  a normal  night........  HELP

Rolling Black Outs

I am  really  lucky  not  only  do  I  get  to  experience  some  first  world  gadgets, like  TV's and  DSTV,  and Smart phones,  Ipads, laptops, and internet  fraudsters  trying  everything  in their  power  to  make  me part   with my  money,  I  have  discovered during the  not  too  distant  past  that  I
am  in  fact  a  princess  and  that  my  wealth  uncle  has  left  me  millions  of  dollars  all  I  need  to  to  get  all  these  dollars  is  to  pay a  "small  admin fee".  I  never realised I  had  relatives  in Nigeria..... I  have  also  over the  past  months won the  American,  British  and  Australian,   lotto  all  of  which  I  can  claim  ........  with  a  small  admin  fee  up front, all  of which  I  have  never  entered,  does anyone  else  find  that  odd  is some  small  way?

I  also get the  third  world  experiences  like  absolute poverty  people  living  in cardboard  boxes
children  playing  on rubbish  dumps  people robbing  you of  your  roof  when  you  are  still  trying  to  live  under  it, or stealing  your  car radiator so that  it  can  be  sold  for scrap metal, people  stripping  perfectly  good  houses  which  have  the  misfortune  of  being  left  unoccupied  for  a  few  weeks,  to  sell  off as  scrap  for  a  few rands.  Welcome  to Africa.

Now  I  have  a  new  experience,  to  add  to  my  list  the  Dark  Ages.......  Friday  night  I  was  having  a  lovely  evening  with  friends,  across the  road  at  8.30pm  the  lights  went  off and  the  fun  began,  have  you  ever  tried  finding  a  box  of  matches  in the  dark  when  you  are  a  none  smoker.......... having  to  negotiate  tables,  chairs  and  lethal  weapons  such  as  cars  and  building blocks  left  on the  floor  by  the  children,  who  by  now  are  screaming  in  fear  because  everything  is  black,  pitch  black...........  and  daddy  is  using  language  they  have  never  heard  before  everytime  he  walks  into  something  "unexpected"     Once  we  have  lights  I  realise   my  daughter  is  at  home  with  Noah  in the  dark  and  I  now  have  to  feel  my  way  to  the  door  and  negotiate  the  way  home  to  help  her.

Now  I  know  exactly  where  my matches  are  after  all  my  claim to  fame  is  that   I  am  super  organised,  I  get  home  feel  up the fridge ( am  sure  that  I  heard  it  giggle)   because that  is  where  I  keep  my matches hey  presto  two  boxes  of  matches....... with  one  match  in both  boxes........  my  housekeeper  who  is  sooooooooo  lucky  she  is  not  here  as she  is  the  smoker  of  the  family and  used  up  all the  matches ........... so  with  one  chance  I  light  my first  candle.....  whoop  whoop  success......  and  we  have  light.........

Sunday  night  we  are  chilling  after  a  busy  weekend it  is  .....  8.30pm...............  ( image  the  Jaws  music  here  doodoo  )...........  the  lights  go  out...............  no matches ...not  smoking  I  forgot  to  buy  new  matches,  and  now  we  sit  in the  dark,  cursing  the  corruption  at  Eskom  our  power  provider  who  have not  maintained  or  erected new  power stations  since  the  freeing  of  Nelson Mandela  20 years  ago..........  and  knowing  in the middle  of  summer  if  they  can  not  provide  enough  power  what  happens  come  winter............  going  out to  buy  everything  gas.........

Looking  forward  to  this  happening  all  the  time, as  we  have  been  warning  rolling  blackout  will  be  a  part  of  our  lives  for  at  least  the  next  two  years,  I   now  have  candles  and  matches  all  over  the house  in fact  all  set  for  the  apocolypse, and  the  lights  stay  on..............   just  got  to  Love  Africa.

STORKS............. MAKE MISTAKES

I decided  long ago,  that  the  stork can  and  does  make  mistakes, that it  has  a  wicked  sense  of  humour,   and  that  it must  have  been exhausted  the  day  it  was  hired  to  deliver  me,  it  was after  all,   the  year  of  the  Baby Boom.....  it dropped  me off in the  wrong  part  of the  world,  too  lazy  to fly all the  way  North  to  my  real  parents,  because  I  know,  I  believe, I  feel  it  in my bones,   that  I  should  have  been  born  to a family of  Eskimo's  in the  middle of  the ice fields of  Alasca  or  in the Siberian Wastelands  where  the  temperatures  reach -40 on a  warm  day... well  maybe not  that  cold.

My children  tell  everyone  how  they  were  the  only children  in the  country  that had  to  wear a hat, gloves  and  scarf in the car and then   take  them off  when  they  get  out of the car,  that  I have  the  only car  in the  world that  steams  up on the  outside,  because  the  inside  is  colder  than the  outside....

At the  age  of 8 my parents  moved  to  South Africa, the  land of Sunshine,  and  I  have  been  melting  slowly  ever  since.    "Normal"  people  dream  of  lying  on beaches  roasting  in the  sun, smothered  in sun tan  lotion,  with  a  martini....  shaken  not  stirred  of  course,  me, well,    I  dream  of  checking  in as  a  guest  at  the  Ice  Hotel, drinking  sherry  out  of  Ice  glasses and  sleeping  on a  bed  of  ice,  wrapped  up  in a  cocoon of  fur,   watching the  Northern  Lights,  bliss.

But  as  Summer  arrives  and  the  temperatures  rise  daily,  with  new  records are  being  broken the hottest  September in 160 years,  hottest  day  in October  since  records began,   temperatures  edging  up  the mercury  on my thermometer,  to  almost  boiling  point,  they  have  already hit  the   34 degrees mark......  and  November  has  just  started.

I wish  that  stork had  dropped  me  off somewhere else.................somewhere COLD
